February 1, 2021, Governor Greg Abbott delivered his annual State of the State Address. In his address, he emphasized the need for quality K-12 civic education. He shared in his televised statement and via Twitter that “We must bolster civics education in our classrooms and ensure that every child learns the values of freedom, good governance, and patriotism.” He went on to say “We must educate [young Texans] about what it means to be an American and what it means to be a Texan,” and “[t]his session we must continue to fund education as we promised.” The Texas Civic Education Coalition applauds the Governor for his continuing commitment to civics education.
